Petaluma Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival

Saturday, April 18, 2026

10am - 5pm, Parade at noon

Downtown Petaluma

Event will be held rain or shine!

Special thanks to our Title Sponsor - Rosie the Original Organic Chicken

and our Premier Presenting Sponsor - Sutter Health!

2026 Theme: "America's Birthday - Petaluma Style"

Celebrating 250 years of independence, ingenuity, and small-town pride.

“Americas’ Birthday – Petaluma Style” celebrates the nation’s 250th Birthday by honoring Petaluma’s deep agricultural roots and hometown spirit. This year’s Butter & Egg Days Parade recognizes the farmers, families, immigrants, makers, entrepreneurs, and creatives whose hard work, imagination, and ingenuity reflect the enduring American Dream. This celebration also pays respect to the Indigenous peoples who first stewarded this land, the courage of our founders, and the dedication of the dairy and egg farming community that shaped our town. Rooted in community, innovation, and independence, the parade celebrates the small-town spirit that continues to make Petaluma a vibrant place to call home. Head to Downtown Petaluma and celebrate with our community on this day of fun, history, and local pride!

Parade participants incorporate the theme “America's Birthday - Petaluma Style” into their entry design. The theme gives nonprofits, businesses, organizations, and individuals lots of options for showing off their creativity in their designs. All parade entries will be judged on how well their entry portrays this year's theme - winners announced on the website! Check back later to see which entries take home the prizes and earn bragging rights.

The Butter & Egg Days festivities kick off on Saturday, April 11 with the Opening Ceremonies at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum (20 Fourth St), from Noon to 1pm. Mayor Kevin McDonnell will read a proclamation honoring the Grand Marshal and Good Egg. Come enjoy this display that shows the heart of our community.

One week later on Saturday, April 18, the Butter & Egg Days Parade steps off at noon and marches through the historic downtown. The parade showcases over 100 units with approximately 3,000 participants and 200 volunteers. Clover Sonoma returns to lead the Clover Kids’ Parade, which precedes the main parade at 11:30am with a procession of preschoolers and primary grade youngsters and their families.

The parade is surrounded by a Festival that spreads over four city blocks from 10am-5pm offering a wide variety of food, crafts, beverage gardens featuring the Lagunitas Beverage Garden on B Street, two kid areas (2nd Street Kids Zone sponsored by Marin Health and the A-Lot by Kaiser Permanente), live music at the Farmhouse Artisan Market Music Stage, Rosie's Organic Harvest Market, and more! New this year, the Festival will feature the Healthy Petaluma Community Relaxation Lounge, a quiet cool space to unwind and refresh, located at Blue Zones, 8 4th Street. This annual event aims to bring together the community for a day of fun and entertainment.

The following weekend, Downtown Petaluma continues the celebration with the Annual Spring Antique Faire, on Sunday, April 26.

Happy Butter & Egg Days!!!

2026 Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival

~ Good Egg ~

CONNIE WILLIAMS

Petaluma History Room librarian

The Good Egg Award was created by the Butter & Egg Days Committee 43 years ago to honor the people who work to keep Petaluma’s history alive. The annual awardee is selected by previous Good Eggs to recognize the legacy of positive promotion begun by booster Bert Kerrigan. Kerrigan worked from 1918 to 1926 and gained international recognition of Petaluma as a center of commerce and agriculture. Kerrigan’s promotion of Petaluma included the famous National Egg Days celebrations, which inspired the creation of the Butter and Egg Days Parade. Kerrigan brought Petaluma fame with the phrase “The World’s Egg Basket.”

The 2026 Butter & Egg Days Opening Ceremonies will take place on Saturday, April 11 at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum at 12 noon. Mayor Kevin McDonnell and other dignitaries will be present to read proclamations honoring the 2026 Good Egg, the parade’s Grand Marshal, announce the opening of History Week, and kickoff the 2026 Butter & Egg Days.

The contact person for each unit involved in the parade is sent parade orders with when and where to show up the morning of the parade. All units line up in the surrounding neighborhoods and leave from Walnut Park at 4th St and D St. to begin the parade route. NO driving through street closures - they are there for a reason. If you have a young child, please park and walk them to where they need to go. It's not safe for you or anyone else to drive through the street closures!

Who puts this on?   The Petaluma Downtown Association and a volunteer committee plan and produce the Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival. Questions ~ 707.762.9348, Admin@PetalumaDowntown.com.

How is the parade funded?   The Butter & Egg Days Parade is funded through business sponsorships, a grant from the County of Sonoma, vendor fees, entrant fees, and generous donations.

How can I help support the parade?   We rely on the community’s support for this much-loved event. Ways to help include: signing up to participate as one of the 240 volunteers that help run the parade; donating (any amount of donation is appreciated); becoming an Award Sponsor to receive sponsor recognition on one or more of the awards that will be given to the winning entries. Questions ~ 707.762.9348 or Admin@PetalumaDowntown.com.

Where is the judging stand?   In front of McNear’s Saloon & Dining House (23 Petaluma Blvd N).

How many people are in the parade?   Over 3,000 people participate with around 135 parade entries and 8 divisions. This includes: floats, horses, marching bands, novelty units, and more.

Where can I see the parade?   From the curb along the entire parade route.

Can I sit in the street?   No. The street must be kept clear. There are horses and many large units. For safety reasons, all spectators must stay on the curb.

What if it rains?   The event goes on, rain or shine.

What are the deadlines for participating in the parade?   Parade applications come out in January, deadlines are in March. See Applications for details.

How do I put together a parade unit or float?   It’s fun to create decorations for your parade unit, whether you’re pushing shopping carts, walking your llamas, or having a float. To get some hints or tips, join us for our Float Workshop (information will be sent to parade participants upon sign up).

What if I want a food booth, nonprofit booth, or other vendor booth in the Festival?   Simply complete the appropriate vendor forms online!   Click links below for signup info.

How do I see the Booth locations?   View 2026 event map External link opens in new tab or windowHERE.

When is the deadline for reserving booth space?   We accept applications until we are full.
